Strength for Service

To God and Country

During the Vietnam War, chaplains lamented the fact that they had no spiritual resource to give to the men, but thanks to the work of Evan Hunsberger, a California Boy Scout, a book of daily devotions that provided comfort and guidance to troops during World War 11 and the Korean conflict has been rediscovered and an updated version has been published.

The book, Strength for Service to God and Country, was first published in 1942 shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor. The pocket -sized volume containing a meditation for every day of the year was republished during the Korean conflict.

Society of St. Andrew

The Society of St. Andrew is a grassroots, faith-based, hunger relief nonprofit working with all denominations to bridge the hunger gap between 96 billion pounds of food wasted every year in this country and the nearly 40 million Americans who live in poverty. We rely on support from donors, volunteers and farmers as we glean nutritious excess produce from farmers’ fields and orchards after harvest and deliver it to people in need across the United States.
